Some of you might remember me from my days at the Star Tribune, writing about the hated Green Bay Packers in 2003 and 2004 before switching to the Vikings beat in 2005. I shifted to the 1500 ESPN website in 2011 and also have done plenty of freelance since then, as well as doing podcasts with Phil Mackey and Declan Goff on SKOR North.

The past few years my writing has slowed, not by choice but by changes in an industry that remains as exciting as ever but is trying to find its way.

The truth is that I missed writing about the Vikings and other Minnesota sports.

My friend Matthew Coller, who has done a great job with his Purple Insider Substack, encouraged me to launch my own Substack and then patiently spent time helping me with the setup.

I started when the Vikings opened training camp and have loved it. It’s not only fun to write more frequently, but it also helps me sort out my thoughts for the SKOR North podcasts.

On Tuesday, I turned on the subscription portion of this Substack. I’m running a special for those who want to get in on the ground floor.

So far, I’ve written a lot about the Vikings. Some have been columns, others have been a list of things that I found interesting regarding the teams. I also have started a weekly notes column — Zulgad’s Weekend Musings — that cover a variety of topics and teams.

Here’s my question: What else would you like to see? The Wild are about to open training camp and anyone who knows me knows I love hockey. The Twins have been a topic on my Substack and the Timberwolves certainly will be as their season gets going.
